Hello Art Peeps!  Two blog posts in two days!  For me, that is a record!

I wanted to show you what I did in August, here in my little town of Paris, TX.  Some great friends, Bret and Sherrie Holbert, recently opened a lovely open air restaurant/wine and beer garden in downtown Paris.  It is called 107 and sits on the southwest corner of the square.  It is a delightful place to get a variety of delicious food, a cold beer and even hear live music.  Sherrie asked me if I would like to do some of my art on their restroom doors.  I jumped at the chance!

I had so much fun collaging papers and labels from the wine and beer that they sell.  Sloppin’ the Golden acrylic paint made it that much more fun!  Even used some spray paint like a hoodlum!  Then I added a bunch of bottle tops that Sherrie had her staff collecting for me.  It looks a lot like something you’d find under a bridge in the inner city, but that was the look I was going for!

My deep thanks go to Bret and Sherrie for allowing me to splatter their bathroom doors with such messy business!  I hope that you will take the time to go visit 107 and taste their yummy cuisine, throw back a cold one and then, if you need to “go”, be sure and pay attention when you do!

Peace and blessings!

…and we’re back!

Psalm 23

So, yeah, I’ve been MIA for a while!

As most of you who follow this blog or keep up with me on Facebook or in real life know, my magnificent husband passed away December 2nd of last year and i’ve spent THIS year floppin’ around like a fish out of water!  I’ve run back and forth from Paris, Texas to New Orleans, Louisiana three different times for weeks at a time.  And as I wrote about in my last blog post many month ago, my circle of friends and family has experienced more huge losses as the year has continued.  The first anniversary of my Big Paul’s passing is rumbling at me like a freight train but I really believe that after it comes and goes that I will begin to rise up and live life again to the fullest!  I feel the pain and sorrow of the first holidays without him coming but I also feel the promise of a new year and new beginnings coming soon after!

I quit my job as a registered nurse.  Being a nurse was a very fulfilling and rewarding job but doing it now reminds me of my sweet husband and his illness to the point of discomfort.  I have, therefore, decided that I am going to pursue my art full-time!  It is my heart’s desire!  I do feel alive when I create!  I express my emotions and thoughts through my art!  I paint what God is speaking to my heart and there is nothing I would rather be doing than expressing myself creatively through art!

I have been able to eeeek out a few commissions during the year and I am very pleased with the way that they have all turned out.  You can see some of the new pieces as prints on my Society6 page.  While I was creating the most recent piece, shown above, entitled Psalm 23, I had the idea to actually do a series of paintings based on the Psalms.  One piece for each Psalm!  That should keep me very busy for a good while!

So thank you for stopping in to check up on me.  I will be becoming more and more reliable and faithful with my updates and new art pieces coming.  And as always, you are invited to commission me to do a custom piece for you!

Blessings to each of you during the upcoming holidays!

Finally, I have completed the painting, given it to my client and can now list it as a print for you to purchase on Society6!  I left inspirational words off of this one.  It just stands alone as a painting.  I think the background is my favorite part.  Messy, yummy texture and lots of it!  If you are interested in purchasing, scroll to the bottom of this page and click on Society6 and it will take you directly to my shop.  Thank you for looking and I hope you enjoy!Songbird

A brand new print of one of my latest pieces is now available on Society6.  This was a commissioned piece for a friend and it is full of little gems of scripture written on the branches meant to encourage!  This piece was done on a 14 X 14 deep profile canvas with vintage book papers, vintage wall papers, modeling paste and vintage doilies (I think doily is a funny word!), Faber Castel inks (my favorite!!!), acrylic paints and lots of love.  It was inspired by my brother in law’s photo of a beautiful painted bunting!  I am really happy that my friend loves it and it is now in her red kitchen bay window area!  If you are interested in getting a print you can go to my Society6 site by clicking on the link in the link section at the bottom of this page.  Thank you for looking.  I hope you enjoy!

New Creation

A New Creation

A new art print available on Society6!  This is entitled “New Creation”.  The original was made on a deep profile canvas and included a vintage French post card, a vintage photograph, acrylic paints, Faber Castel inks, modeling paste and gel mediums.  The yellow butterfly is a sign of becoming a New Creation!

Just added to Society6 is this print with one of my favorite quotes of all time by Eleanor Roosevelt.  “You must do the things you think you cannot do.”  I have found this to be true in recent months!  Pop on over to Society6 and see if you might like to purchase a print.  I have kept the original for myself.  I need to see it every single day!

You can find the link to my Society6 shop at the bottom of this page.

Blessings!

Sam and Taylor

Sam and Taylor

When my son, Sam, asked his lovely bride, Taylor, to marry him and she said “yes”, I immediately (after I fell on my knees and thanked God!!!) went to work on this hot mess of a photo collage for them for their wedding.  It was my first and only attempt at such a thing, but I knew what I wanted to do and made it happen.  If I had it to do now, it would look a LOT more professional, but it was done with love and thats what counted at the time.

My hope is to get hooked up with a local photographer and make these for weddings, graduations, anniversaries, etc…  I do have my brother in law, David, but he only takes pictures of birdies!  If you know of any Parisian photographer who would be interested in offering a photo collage to their client, won’t you please mention me to them?  I have a few I plan to approach when things at my home settle down, but in the meantime, I wanted to get the word out.

Sam and Taylor have this hanging in their bedroom.  Its a 20 x 20 deep panel canvas collage made with copies of engagement photos and pictures of their dating years.  There are quite a few things I would do differently now, as I said before, but I sprinkled love all over it so hopefully the flaws are not too noticeable.

Thank you for looking and keep me in mind if you have an occasion to need a photo collage!  I’m your girl!

Blessings,

Susan
